Aniyah Story studies her U.S. History text. Aniyah is one of CA's many youth leaders calling for the Governor to sign AB331 and make Ethnic Studies a graduation requirement for all high school students.
Black youth and other youth of color in California do not see themselves represented in history lessons, decision making spaces in their schools, and often lack the necessary resources for learning. The current pandemic, distance learning, and the Black Lives Matter movement have made these needs even more evident.
Tell Governor Newsom that we need him to take action in support of California Black students and students of color by
1) Signing AB 331 to make Ethnic Studies High School Graduation Requirement
2) Prioritizing the Youth Task Force on alternatives to police
3) Formally endorsing Proposition 15, also known as Schools & Communities First
Governor Newsom has an opportunity to ensure that California students have access to Ethnic Studies, and be part of designing what school safety can look like when centered on the most impacted youth.
